Car insurance rates are up almost 21% for the 12 months ended in February, according to new Consumer Price Index data released Tuesday. The last time car insurance rates rose that much on an annual basis was 1976, not counting January, which saw the same annual rate increases. The rise in car insurance rates alone contributed half a percentage point to the overall 3.2% inflation rate last month. Meanwhile, drivers in North Carolina saw the smallest bump in car insurance rates, up just 5.5% over that same timeframe.

Trump lost Nevada in both 2016 and 2020, but Republicans think the state is winnable in 2024. In 2020, Biden flipped the key states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, pulling away support from many independents who had backed Trump in the 2016 election. Trump easily won the 2016 Republican presidential caucus in Nevada, when he was fresh on the political scene. And the Nevada Republican Party awarded all of its delegates to Trump in 2020. The Nevada Republican Party has sued the state to restore the caucus system next year.

But lately, Democrats have been on a roll. In 2016 Hillary Clinton duplicated Gerald Ford ’s 1976 feat, and Democrats control both U.S. Senate seats, three of the state’s four House seats, every statewide elected office except secretary of state, and both legislative houses in Carson City. “A coordinated campaign over the last how many years has turned Nevada blue,” Sen.
